After hearing a Benny Goodman recording at age 11, Larry Okmin, a native San Diegan, started clarinet lessons! At San Diego State, he studied music theory and took performance classes along with his pre-dental studies. During those years Larry was the clarinet & sax man with the South Market St. Jazz Band, a young group that played at the famous Mickey Finn's Speakeasy, at Disneyland, at jazz festivals, and did two USO tours to Viet Nam and Thailand. Still practicing orthodontics (and his horns) Larry currently leads The High Society Jazz Band as well as playing in some local big bands--his favorite being the Big Band Express!
